The Piece creates a spontaneous collection of scenes,
songs and games based on audience suggestions. As an
added bonus, special guest improvisers often join The
Piece during their show and for the big "Improv
Jam" that ends the evening.
The Piece have performed to standing ovations everywhere
from colleges to senior centers, campgrounds, private
parties, corporate affairs and comedy clubs. Having
formed out of college workshops, The Piece is at home
with any audience and are a perfect fit for college,
high school, theatre and corporate venues.
Artistic
Director
The Piece is directed by Bill McLaughlin, who studied
with Chicago’s renowned Second City Director Del Close.
Bill is a founding member of The Chicago’s City Limits,
New York City's longest running comedy revue, and was
a main company performer and training director with
New York's First Amendment Strictly Improv show. He
is also the former director of improvisational training
and performance for the Manhattan Comedy School, and,
when not producing and performing for corporate and
commercial venues, teaches improv at Wickline Casting,
Philadelphia, and Bucks County Community College. For
more information on Bill go to McLaughlin
Creative Services.
Dan
Hornberger started his Improv career at Bucks County
Community College in 2005. He has been improvising with
The Piece since August 2007. He is also a founding member
of the longform group Angry People Building Things formerly
known as Uncle. Dan has also had the lead female role
for the production Saddle Up for Murder at Town and
Country Theatre in Buckingham PA. He currently resides
in Bensalem.
John Mcgarry Born
and raised on the streets of Philadelphia, Johns knack
for performing and being on stage developed at an early
age. His father
has been in a band all of Johns life and he enjoyed
dancing the night away with the “Middle Aged” (old)
ladies! Formally, his first performance was his senior
year in High School as the lead in Crazy For You. He
caught the bug. He went on to Bucks County Community
College to begin pursuing an acting career. That’s where
he took his first improvisational theater class taught
by the illustrious Bill McLaughlin. After returning
for several semesters, John and former Piece member
Mike Tingle took classes in New York City with the Chicago
City Limits improv group then began putting on their
own productions under the name Sam Malone’s Hairpiece.
SMHP, or The Piece as it was called for short, had a
revolving cast of improvisers all of which were former/current
students of McLaughlin. Monthly shows in Quakertown,
Pa. forced a steady ensemble cast, which now comprises
The Piece.
Kristin
Mellor is a member of the short form/sketch comedy
group The Piece and co-founder of the longform improv
group Angry People Building Things. She graduated from
Bucks County Community College in 2006 with an Associates
Degree in Communication Performance. She first took
a liking to improv when she took a class at Bucks with
Bill McLaughlin in 2004 and she has been improvising
ever since. Kristin has been performing improv throughout
the Philadelphia and Bucks County areas. She has performed
with The Piece at John & Peter's in New Hope and McCoole's
in Quakertown. She has also performed with Angry People
Building Things in the Philadelphia Improv Festival,
they were the 6 time running Cagematch champions in
2008. Kristin continues to improve on her improv skills
by attending the Incubator on Sunday nights
Andrew Stanton was born in the world.
He is still there. He lives in a place and he has met
some other people and some animals in life. He can talk
and eat and pick things up all on his own. He can yell
loud and he can remember a lot of words in order. He
went to school some. He started to learn improvising
in 2007. Bill McLaughlin was the teacher. He still improvises.
He improvises with The Piece and also with Angry People
Building Things. Both are good and he likes them both
a lot and he likes the other people in them. He feels
powerful and he does not understand why. He is building
a machine. This is only the start of his journey
"I LOVED the show. From the moment I sat down
until the very end I was laughing. Laughing hard."
